The building was originally constructed in 1851 as the US custom house and post office. The newspaper occupied the southeast corner location at 4th & Green St. from 1876 to 1911. It moved to the southwest corner of 3rd & Green St. in 1912 and remained at that location until 1948, when it moved to the 525 W. Broadway site.
*Green St. was changed to Liberty St. during WWI.
