Cave Hill, dedicated in July of 1848, is one of the oldest cemeteries in Louisville. The name comes from the 296 acre Cave Hill Farm with a cave spring, which was occupied by the Johnson family. The cemetery is known for its unique and monumental art grave markers. The clock tower, with its 2,000 lb. bell, was added to the main gate area in 1891.
